Chi Chi Amor supports CHOAIDS event
Aug 08
Last month, we donated a gorgeous pair of our handmade, recycled huipil booties to support a fundraiser for CHOAIDS, (Caring for Haitian Orphans with AIDS). The goal of this event was to raise money to cover the rent and mounting monthly expenses for the orphanage in Haiti. It gives us great satisfaction to be able to participate in events such as these. Chi Chi Amor is deeply committed to supporting social justice causes around the globe, particularly those that improve the lives of children. If you are affiliated with such an organization, please email us and tell us about it. It is fundamentally important to us at Chi Chi Amor, to share our success as it comes, with those in need, in as many ways as possible.
The People of Burma Need Help!
May 12
We’re taking a few liberties here, because this is a blog, afterall, and Chi Chi Amor customers seem to care about things beyond our own personal worlds outside our homes…
If you read this, and you have a few bucks to spare, or share, or are a part of a big email list, or an organization who might be able to help, please think about passing this on, or donating to the 30,000+ victims of the cyclone that struck Burma last week. This organization has figured out a way to actually get the aid through the unwavering regime in Burma and to the actual people.
Burma Lifeline.

Natural Dyes...Coming Soon!!!
May 06
Dear Chi Chi Amor Customers…
Check out this very interesting article about recent archaeological findings that reveal the complexity and amazing quality of ancient Mayan textiles. Also note the references to NATURAL DYES!
Ancient Mayan Tomb Yields Amazing Fabrics
We are soooooo excited to announce that in less than 3 weeks, our NEW NATURALLY DYED items will arrive from Guatemala. We will have dresses, shirts and cargo shorts in the most beautiful shades you have ever seen. Filomena, our amazingly talented natural dye producer (see above) from a little town on Lago Atitlan, makes her dyes from things like beets and ash, aloe vera, and sacatinta, (a plant native to Central America). Wait until you see this stuff. It’ll knock your socks off, probably right into a pail of natural dyes! ;) We bonded with Filomena from the second we met her. She’s from a town that has a creation legend that begins with the birth of twins. When she found out I (Shari) is the mother of twins, she started pulling things off of the walls of her in-home store, to give to us as gifts. She gave me two red scarfs to give to my twin boys and Danielle was the lucky recipient of a gorgeous woven textile.

The universe has amazing ways of bringing people together…Jeff, my (Shari’s) faithful brother and pal, introduced us to Lauren Davison, Founder of Organic Green Mommy . We hit it off immediately with Lauren and Organic Green Mommy and our paths could not have crossed at a better time. Chi Chi Amor is beyond honored to be featured on Organic Green Mommy .
and we really hope that if you stumble upon this entry, that you take a moment to check out Lauren’s wonderful website, chock-full of highly valuable parenting information, really neat stuff for sale, and simple ways to be a greener and happier mommy (or daddy!)

Earth Day
Apr 27
Last weekend (4.20.08), Chi Chi Amor participated in the Sierra Club’s (www.sierraclub.org) Earth Day event at Lowry Park Zoo (www.lowryparkzoo.com) in Tampa, FL. We received a lot of attention for our recycled pants, made from the traditional Mayan skirt (corte) and our booties, recycled from the traditional Mayan shirt (huipil). We were happy to see so many like-minded parents at Earth Day and hope Tampa will have a higher turn-out every year. As part of the event, Chi Chi Amor donated $50 to the Sierra Club. We look forward to next year.
